Sacrificing now for later

It feels excruciatingly painful

It tears me inside

To say no, feels like death itself

Refusing to taste the sweetness of life

Denying myself what the body asks for

Choosing to go against my own heart

Sacrificing what’s in front of me

Pleasure, comfort, safety, certainty…

For what has no guarantee at all

But, carries a promise of a future,

Of what as always been true and real

A no now is a yes to the future

Sacrificing now for later

Is as elusive as life itself

Yet, it is the best bet I have now.
